At 1,000 SKUs, you cannot monitor competitor pricing by hand. The window to respond to a new entrant or a Buy Box shift is hours, not days. Most sellers set a floor price and let a dumb repricer undercut competitors by a penny until it hits the floor. The problem: that floor was set once, six months ago, when your cost was different. Now the floor is below your break-even and your repricer is running you negative.
Price wars are a specific failure mode. A competitor enters at an aggressive price. You undercut. They undercut. Within 72 hours, both of you are at margin zero. The repricer didn't protect you from the price war: it accelerated you into it.
The other side of the problem: when you own the Buy Box, most repricers just hold. Seller Calculus can incrementally raise your price when you own the box, recovering margin without losing position.
How It Works
Three strategies, selected per SKU based on your goals. Liquidate: chase the Buy Box aggressively, accept lower margin, move inventory fast. Accelerate: compete with a margin floor, controlled descent. Preserve Value: hold target margin, raise price when you own the Buy Box.
Every rule has a configurable delta guardrail: the maximum percentage change allowed per cycle. If a competitor's price would force a move larger than your guardrail, the recommendation is blocked and logged. You stay informed without acting on potentially bad data.
Price war detection monitors for the signature pattern: multiple competitors converging toward your floor price simultaneously. When detected, the default behavior shifts to hold-at-minimum rather than follow the descent. You stop losing on a war you didn't choose.
